What you'll be doing:

As an intern you will contribute directly to the further development of our greenhouse energy model. The horticulture sector is facing challenges, from rising energy costs and climate change, to water scarcity and labor shortages. However, at Certhon we see challenges as an opportunity to create new and better solutions that rethink greenhouse design and operation. 

The challenge you will work on is improving the alignment between (renewable) energy production and energy demand. To tackle this, Certhon is developing a Python model for optimizing greenhouse energy systems. By combining greenhouse data with dynamic electricity prices, heat pumps, CHP systems, boilers, e-boilers, aquifer storage, the tool provides insights into both economic and environmental performance. With this model we want to bridge the gap between engineering and sales, quantify the benefits of energy flexibility, and accelerate the transition to fossil-free horticulture.

You will expand our existing greenhouse energy model with additional technologies and equipment. In addition, you will validate the model using real-world data from growers and explore new methods for conducting analyses and energy-flow modelling. Who are you?

• You're studying Biosystems Engineering, Data Engineering, Greenhouse Horticulture, or a related field at university-level;
• You're looking for a research internship of at least 5 months;
• You have a background in Python and/or greenhouse technology; 
• You have a affinity with energy flow or climate modelling and performing data analyses;
• You can work independently and are passionate about innovations in the horticulture industry;
• You're eager to learn, love problem-solving, and want to contribute to our mission: Growing anything, anywhere. For everyone!
